My miniature jester doll is the favorite of almost everyone who looks at my dollhouse miniatures. The jester is a beloved, traditional character among artists, dollhouse collectors and other hopeless romantics. My miniature jester doll creation is 100 percent handmade ~ hand-sculpted and hand-painted by D.K. Pritchett. You can't help but love the "motley fool". My jester is about 1 1/2 inches tall from cap to toes. For a dollhouse child's room, he would be nearly "life-size". He doesn't stand alone, but is somewhat posable, as his arms and legs hang loosely and he sits on a flat rump. He is wearing a colorful jester's costume (but with colorful swirls instead of diamond shapes). The cockscomb hat has tiny gold balls (for bells) on it. He has a pretty, cheerful expression, as one would expect, with tiny rosy dots on each cheek. His arms are impossibly short, with simple hands (not detailed). My toy jester does not carry a scepter. The miniature jester doll is just one toy from a toy chest full of handmade miniature toys by D.K. Pritchett. What medieval court would be complete without the court jester? The fool could was the political humorist of the day, as well as court entertainer. One lesser-known function of the jester's humor, according to Wikipedia, was to improve people's health through laughter, by helping balance the four "humours" that ere thought to govern health! The traditional costume of the court jester was a bright-colored suit with a diamond or motley pattern, a tri-cornered floppy cockscomb hat with bells hanging from each corner, a and a scepter (or bladder or bauble), also called a marotte. My miniature jester doll has a slightly different coloring, but he is still a bright, gaily colored piece, and of course, he has the cockscomb hat. I do plan to make another miniature jester doll in the future, but this will be an occasional offering. Many hours went into the making of this little fellow! If you like the miniature jester doll and are interested in having a similar one, or in buying/bidding on the toy chest full of toys, please contact the artist!
