Many loving hours went into the making of this tiny miniature, realistic-looking toy chest (above). It is only two inches wide, perfect for a little dollhouse doll's room. It is made of real wood, carefully hand-stained, rubbed and varnished, to give it the look of a real, "home-made" antique toy box. The age buffing is very real looking, with a worn place just where generations of children might sit on or handle the lid of the toy box. It has the rough-hewn look of a chest that was made by grandpa in the olden days, when lots of thick wood was available, but time was of the essence, and no special finishing was needed. It has a hand-tooled look, as if you can even see where the grandfather's hand-axe might have split the wood, and the plane was thrown across it a time or two to remove the splinters ~ that's all. The aged, glossy, buttery-looking finish looks as if it has been put there by time. This has not been aged with a quick dip in a vat of antiquing. It has been carefully thought out, and hand-touched to make it look as "real" as possible. I have painted tiny, tiny spots for nails and added two imitation leather straps to it (actually made of card-stock, stained and pocked with a sharp tool, and varnished for strength). The top and sides of the chest are wide pieces of woods, with the "best" pieces reserved for top and front, and an old, slightly cracked, rough piece put into the side. The bottom is two pieces of "lumber" with thick chunks taken out, as if carelessly (just like in real, vintage handmade chests). The chest holds most of the toys pictured on my pages, but if it comes up for sale, read the description carefully to know exactly which toys come with it. I am reserving the best of the best toys for this box, but one toy is not included in the auction. The rag doll, came out bigger than I had planned, so I sold it separately. This box will work well for scale or even half-scale doll houses: that is, 1/12 or 1/24 scale doll houses. It is 2 x 1 x 7/8 (two inches wide by one-inch tall, by 7/8 inches deep.

The top photo on this page shows the miniature toy chest, containing and/or surrounded by the following toys: five miniature games (including Ouija board and pointer, Chess, Mancala, Snakes and Ladders, and Sherlock); large toy jester doll; large brown teddy bear; hoop; vintage-looking toy stickhorse; lady doll; red toy top; five toy soldiers; miniature squirrel with nut; blue-bunny wooden pull toy; miniature sleeping-cat basket; tiny baby doll; swirling-colored toy "rubber" ball; drum; Indian chief's headdress and tiny hatchet; and yellow toy "rubber" duck. As shown in the photo, the lid of the toy chest will not close with all these toys piled in it, and several of the toys, such as the toy stick horse, hoop and headdress, must be placed outside the box. But you can have lots of fun deciding which toys should be kept in the box and which ones should be displayed around the dollhouse child's room. You can switch them out, displaying first one, then the other toy. You can put the small toys in the chest and place the games on a shelf or table, the stickhorse in a corner, the headdress on the corner of a four-poster bed... The display possibilities are endless fun in themselves!

The soldiers, jester, lady doll, squirrel, pull toy, cat basket, Indian headdress, drum, and rubber duck will stand alone. The teddy bear, stickhorse, hoop, and ball have to be propped or positioned in or around the toy chest or other support to be properly displayed.
