Metamorphosis
Susan found the first cocoon. It was big and brownish-green, with cream-colored spots. She thought it would be fun to find out what was inside it. She decided to try to hatch the cocoon. She brought it inside the house and kept it warm. Often, she wondered aloud what was inside of it and whether it would actually hatch. I knew about the cocoon. We all did. It was her pet project.

Then one night, I was sitting on the couch. I felt something crawling on my leg. I looked down and saw a hideous big bug. It was about two inches long, brownish-green and slimy looking, with long, hairy antennas. I had never seen anything like it. I screamed, grabbed the thing, and threw it outside. I had no idea what it was or how it had gotten inside the house, but it was scary and horrible. The next morning, Susan woke up and came into the living room. "My cocoon hatched," she said, "and I can't find what came out of it."

"Oh no!" I quickly realized what had happened. "There was a big, ugly bug and I threw it outside." We opened the front door. There, on the bush outside, was the most beautiful, huge, pale green moth we had ever seen. It had cream-colored spots and long, hairy brown antennas. Obviously it was the same bug that I had thrown out, but with wings newly opened and dried!
