TRANSCRIPTION NOTE

The original document is a printed, standardized form, which the clerk filled in by hand. Writing is clear, but it is sometimes difficult to tell capital letters from lower case letters.

FOOTNOTES

  1. Spelling clearly varies here, but it is difficult to read, so I can't be sure that I have transcribed it correctly.

  2. Difficult to read. One could interpret this as "Hanes," but a cross-reference of the other documents shows that it is "Hannah." The typical pronunciation of "Hannah" among older appalachian people would be "Hanner."

  3. Other lines, left blank, gave space for listing various livestock, personal and domestic property, and other assets. I've included only the items for which the widow listed ownership.
