My name is Peter Cooper. My PO is LONG ISLAND, ALA, JACKSON CO., I was born in 1843 in DADE CO., GA. I claim Cherokee Indian blood through my and1 father and his father. Father died in 1845-6. I (he?)2 was about or between 20 and 30 years old when he died: He was born in Ky.
Don't know where grandfather was born but he came to this county from Ky. They, Father and Grandfather, were recognized as white folks when they lived: They lived with white people; never heard of them living with the Indian Tribe except that they in this state when the Indians left.
They did not leave when the Indians left: I don't know why the Indians left: I never heard of my father or my grandfather getting money or land from the government on account of their Indian Blood. I never heard of their being enrolled with the Cherokee: I don't know why I was not enrolled in 1851: I was living with my grandmother at that time: My father and grandfather are both dead: I never heard of my grandmother living with the Cherokee Tribe: I have heard Grandmother say that we had THE BLOOD in us and have heard all people say so: Indians talked to me about it: They said I looked like I had the Blood in me. In 1882, I was living in Jackson Co., Al: I was not enrolled at that time because I did not know anything about it: There was no agent through here. I never heard of a treaty with the Cherokee in 1835--I heard about the Indians being sent away from here: I suppose my grandfather did not go because he did not want to. Jim, Wert (?Newt),3 Isaac.
