Old Rock Building
The old rock building in Chatsworth, Georgia, is in ruins. The building caught fire and burned on Saturday, September 26th, 2009. It was built in 1934 as the first consolidated high school of Murray County, and was being renovated as an office building. Recently, alumni, friends and community members had raised money to renovate the beautiful old landmark. Now the stone walls stand in ruins. See Daily Citizen News reports and also see their photos of the fire. Disheartened citizens learned of the fire on the same day that many Murray Countians spent fighting flash flood waters from a thunderstorm system that covered the North Georgia region.

The old rock building had been placed on the National Register of Historic Places as the Murray County High School Historic District. It was officially named as the V.C. Pickering Administrative Center in 2005, prior to Phase I of the renovation. Plans were to use it as the central office for the Murray County school system.
