| Old Rock Building | Is there a future for it? |
PAGE UPDATED DEC 2007
Now that Murray County's old rock building has burned, residents of Murray County wonder if there's any future for the beloved old landmark. Early speculation was that it would have to be demolished. Although the stone walls are still standing, they might be weak from fire damage. The roof and interior framework were completely gutted by the fire. The old rock building was placed on The National Register of Historic Places in 2004, prior to the beginning of its renovation. Community members hope that something can be made of the ruins. If the building itself cannot be saved, perhaps some memorial might be made of the wonderful old stonework.
