Friends of the Vann House Land Campaign has begun a new phase. Thanks to all who donated funds, a large portion of the land next to the Vann House has been purchased. In addition, Friends of the Vann House now has an option to purchase the rest of the 85-acre lot. The next phase of the campaign will be to raise funds for that land by the summer of 2004. Persons interested in furthering the goal, please contact Friends of the Vann House. See Update. In the meantime, anyone interested in the project, the Vann House, or other projects of Friends of the Vann House, may contact Tim Howard. |

The Vann House is located in historic Spring Place, near Chatsworth, Georgia. Land on the northwest corner of Highways 225 and 52 was in danger of aggressive commercial development by the owners, who had expressed an intent of building a mobile-home park or strip mall. Thanks to friends and donors, the first phase of the land campaign raised $1,500,000, enough to purchase forty acres ~ almost half of the 85-acre lot. The next phase of the campaign focuses on raising funds to purchase the remaining portion of approximately 45 acres of land. Persons interested in furthering the campaign, either by donating funds or by volunteering time, services or goods, should contact Friends of the Vann House.
Whitfield-Murray Historical Society and Friends of the Vann House are focused on preserving as much of the historic Spring Place community as possible. Related lands recently saved by the efforts of Friends of the Vann House, Whitfield-Murray Historical Society and matching state grants and/or generous donations by local landowners include "God's Acre," the old Moravian Mission cemetery near the Chief Vann House. Lands lost to commercial development due to lack of foresight on our part are the two southern corners of intersection 225 & 52-A, facing the Vann House, and a couple of lots in the Historic District of Spring Place, just south of the Vann House on Georgia Hwy. 225, where now sits a modern and very commercial-looking Dollar General Store.
