Harrison Fisher Illustrations
from Hearts and Masks
The Princess Elopes
Left: Cover and
all nine illustrations from "Hearts and Masks."

Right: Illustration from "The Princess Elopes."
This charming group of illustrations appeared in a book by Harold Macgrath. The blue hardcover book had a paper inset colored illustration of the beautiful Blue Domino, the heroine of the novel, Hearts and Masks. The book included two short novels, of which Hearts and Masks was the first, and more charming, stories. The first nine illustrations were for Hearts and Masks. The last illustration was for the second novel, The Princess Elopes. Fisher was known for his illustrations of women.

Macgrath's novels are as charming as Fisher's illustrations. For the hopelessly romantic, they are well worth reading. "Hearts and Masks" has been transcribed and is on-line at Gutenberg Press.
