Entertainment in Dalton If you're used to a larger, metropolitan city, entertainment is a little more scarce in Dalton. Our big thing is carpet outlets I don't think you could do them all in a day, or even a week! There's also some pretty good thrift shopping in the area. There is a theater complex at Walnut Square Mall, located at 2150 East Walnut Avenue (I-75 exit 333, Walnut Ave., straight east a couple of miles). Atlanta is only about a one-and-a-half-hour drive from Dalton. Chattanooga, an hour away, has many entertainment and shopping venues. Dalton and nearby towns are rich in history, though. History buffs should visit New Echota (former capital of the Cherokee nation) in Calhoun, Chief Vann House and Fort Mountain State Park, near Chatsworth, and Red Clay (also a historic Cherokee capital), north of Cohutta, Georgia, near Cleveland, Tennessee. The historic tunnel at Tunnel Hill (north of Dalton) has been made into a small park. Hamilton House Chenille Museum in Dalton is open by appointment. Creative Arts Guild has art exhibits throughout the year. Dalton Little Theater and Artistic Civic Theaters present plays. Driving through the mountains outside of Eton is enjoyable. Other nearby towns to explore for history, hiking, and other entertainment are Dahlonega (a historic gold-mining town in the mountains) and Blue Ridge. Ocoee and Ducktown, Tennessee offer little in the way of entertainment, but have some beautiful driving around the scenic Ocoee River. This area has festivals and history events at scheduled times during the fall, including Prater's Mill, Ellijay Apple Festival, the Wagon Train and Vann House Days. Helen, Georgia, is a several hours drive from Dalton. I-75, exit 328: "Connector Three" |
